We break down here the best of the week’s releases from the world of country music….
1. If I Were You (feat. Keith Urban) by Jillian Jacqueline
Sometimes a song just knocks you 360 and you become instantly addicted to it, pressing previous as soon as it gets to those closing notes. This next offering by Jillian Jacqueline is just that – as raw and real as it gets, writing from a perspective little told, this track is both catchy, beautiful, sweet and heartfelt in equal measure. Just when we thought Reasons was hard to beat, Jacqueline goes and proves us wrong – listen to it, thank us later.
2. Your Hurricane by Heather Morgan
A long-time writer on the Nashville scene, having written for the likes of Dierks Bentley and Brett Eldredge, Morgan bares her soul and voice to the full in ‘Your Hurricane,’ the result is a thing of beauty, organic and poignant, oozing with nostalgia and timeless energy. Morgan is a keeper, and we can’t wait to hear more of her music, with her positioned front and centre.
3. E.G.O. by Lucie Silvas
Can Silvas literally do anything wrong? Not if the title track from E.G.O. is anything to go by. The pre-released tracks from E.G.O. have built on the beauty of ‘Letters to Ghosts,’ demonstrating the mastery and poise of Silvas’ ability not just to compose a song, but to compose an album in its entirety. This track with it’s blues-y edge is both as raw and as sultry as they come… Prep yourself for Friday.
4. Dad’s Old Number by Cole Swindell
Cole Swindell recently released his hotly-anticipate album ‘All of It,’ and the album shows the sensitive side of Swindell, taking the listener on a truly memorable emotional journey, ups and downs and everything in between. However, it is this beautiful, sweet track – the last of the album – that stole our heart, no listener will be unable to relate to the lyric, ‘Sometimes I forget / These 10 digits ain’t my lifetime anymore..,’ really the track should be released with a disclaimer, ‘may result in water to the eyes.’
5. Champagne by Lindsay Ell
The latest single from Lindsay Ell’s album is a shrewd choice. The perfect blend of sassy attitude, with just enough vulnerability to make it tick – it was always a standout track from the album, and so truly deserving of ‘single’ status.
5. Change My Life by Levi Hummon
Co-written with Phil Barton and Lindsay Rimes, this new track from Levi Hummon is an upbeat, smile-inducing introduction to a new relationship, and will leave you literally humming for days…
6. Wildflowers of Colorado by Sinead Burgess
Having just come off her support slot for The Shires’ UK tour, Burgess has released her album, ‘Damaged Goods,’ that is a masterclass in poignant, original and humble songwriting. This is our favourite track from the album, exhibiting the gorgeous tonality of Burgess’ voice to the full, alongside simple and tender writing that is permitted to shine without the need for over the top production.
