Singer-songwriter Katy for Kings has been steadily building a growing reputation for her gorgeously emotive voice and folk-pop songwriting. Now Katy for Kings is set to make a bigger impact as she shares her current single ‘City’. The track is a gorgeously emotive track, complete with a stunningly tender and unique vocal at the forefront. ‘City’ adds a distinctive UK feel to the folk-pop style of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, the track makes for an engaging introduction to an artist who has the potential to dramatically boost her profile. The longing and depth of her voice brings her storytelling lyrics to life, which express an experience that so many young people go through. But the song’s immediacy and poignancy sounds as if it’s the product of a more seasoned songwriter.
Katy for Kings wrote the song acoustically with solo artist and 5 Seconds of Summer co-writer Chris Bourne. It was then developed alongside producer John Fields (Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, P!nk).
“‘City’ was written just after I turned 18,” says Katy. “It’s a song about heartbreak, but I also wanted to try to capture how overwhelming it can be to throw yourself into new experiences and process new emotions. It’s a mix of infatuation and nostalgic with a side of uncertainty.”
Hailing from Chelmsford, Katy first picked up a guitar when she was 14-years-old and taught herself to play ‘Hey Stephen’by Taylor Swift. Immediately falling in love with playing music, she soon started writing songs, with John Mayer, Kacey Musgraves and Harry Styles all key influences. It wasn’t long before she started playing local gigs in pubs that she wasn’t even old enough to drink in.
