Last night, superstar P!nk offers up a riotous celebration of joy, love and inclusivity to kick off BST Hyde Park.
Mega superstar P!NK kicked off BST Hyde Park yesterday with an extraordinary performance of joy and light, supported by Gwen Stefani, Sam Ryder and GAYLE.
Entering the crowd descending from a smile hung high above the stage in a glittery pink leotard was a fitting entrance for P!nk’s set at Hyde Park, as she delivered a riotous tour through her jam-packed catalogue of hits that she has collected over the course of her career. The magic of P!nk hangs (literally) in her ability to move between raucous hits – like her entrance to ‘Get the Party Started’ to stripped back acoustic moments like the lingering ‘Please Don’t Leave Me.’ She is similarly at ease in getting the party started through her jaw-dropping aerobatic feats and stunts as she is in baring her heart to her legions of loyal fans. She is an artist who, even in her superstardom, feels immensely humble and eager to engage, letting audiences into her life (inviting daughter Willow onto stage for Cover Me In Sunshine) and delighting in the fans and gifts from the audience (including a pair of frog slippers and an entire wheel of cheese.
P!nk was supported by Gwen Stefani, who delivered a similar tour through her back catalogue – although, unlike P!nk the set did divert from quirky to downright weird (note: overblown bananas entering the stage for ‘Hollaback Girl.’) Though the performance was immense fun, it did not have the same momentous pull of the headliner (though that was to be expected given the legions of megafans there for the star slot.
Earlier, Sam Ryder impressed fans with a mixture of his hit single Space Man, a sprinkling of covers and a few lesser heard hits and GAYLE showed herself to be on the brink of stardom with her vibrant performance, including her hit single ABCDEFU.
Credit to the organisers as ever for kicking off the London musical summer in style, with a well-crafted and sublimely joyful line-up that delighted fans.
