Lexi Berg has shared her stunning new single ‘Into the Sea’ today – an ethereally atmospheric track that shimmers. This is her first release since her song ‘What If’ was featured in the Netflix film ‘Pieces of a Woman.’ Listen here.
Swedish-American singer-songwriter Lexi Berg has today released a stunning melodic new track showcasing her powerful poignant vocal. In recent months, Berg has enjoyed a wave of success with her haunting ballad ‘What If’ (produced with Faris Badwan of The Horrors) featuring in the critically acclaimed Netflix film ‘Pieces of A Woman’. The film has remained in the spotlight throughout award season, picking up countless key nominations at ceremonies including the Oscars, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes.
Following months of being locked down alone in a dark flat writing music, Lexi Berg has stepped fully into the spotlight as she shares her new single ‘Into The Sea’, alongside its official video. The powerful track is the first release under a new deal with the Warner Music UK label EastWest Records. ‘Into the Sea’ is a stunning and thoughtfully produced track that allows Berg to place her vocal at the forefront.
‘Into The Sea’ is a moody ‘70s-tinged widescreen soul-pop ballad that takes fresh inspiration from the classic song-writing and astute musicianship of the likes of Fleetwood Mac and ABBA. Composed at the piano in Jimmy Hogarth’s studio, the song draws us in with dramatic and mournful strings, amplified by Lexi’s Berg soaring and soulful vocals and haunting harmonies. ‘Into the Sea’ embodies Lexi’s emotional depth through her lyrical and melodic gift for merging sorrow and joy.
“Swedes have a mystical relationship to the sea,” Lexi says. “In the summer, we have the ‘morgondopp’ ritual: getting up early, putting on our bathrobes and clogs, and heading out into the sea whatever the weather. I think everyone who spent lockdown in a city felt a particular appreciation when they escaped into nature. I hope this song moves the listener and reminds us of nature’s ability to heal and restore us emotionally with its magic.”
The official video for ‘Into the Sea’ follows Lexi’s escape from a concrete world to a wild and unspoiled coast of the waves and water. Directed by Drew Cox (Jorja Smith, Plan B), Drew depicts Lexi’s own emotional journey into nature, through the shift from muted colours to richer tones. Watch it HERE.
Lexi Berg is unafraid to channel revealing and unguarded emotional lyricism into her intensely affecting songwriting. It’s an empowering strength with roots that stretch back deep into her Nordic heritage.
The song is apt as the Stockholm-born Lexi grew up on the sea, spending much of her childhood on a houseboat, which contained a piano. A trained classical pianist, her talents also flourished as a vocalist, prompting offers when she was 13 from labels and producers who were eager to shape her as a young pop star. But after the suicide of a beloved uncle who lived with the family, she left for America, then Edinburgh and London, where she began to explore her own path as a songwriter and artist, away from the input of others.
