Apple Music’s Zane Lowe chats to Tiera about her new single ‘Not Your Girl’ and how the song came together and how she found the confidence to try new things. The full interview is available on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1 and you can check out Tiera’s show here.
Tiera Tells Apple Music How “Not Your Girl” Came Together…
I wrote “Not Your Girl” with Cameron Bedell and Jack Newsome and we wrote this song from a relationship perspective, but really it’s about, when I first moved to Nashville, it was really important for me to figure out my sound and the brand and everything. Just figure it all out myself before I had anybody else telling me what to do, you know, because I feel like it’s so easy to be swayed in one direction in the music… When I first moved here, my sound was super country because I was like, “It has to be 100% country because I don’t want anybody to doubt whether or not I’m a country artist,” but I feel like that song was kind of just me telling the world, “I’m going to be who I am and not let anybody change that.”
Tiera Tells Apple Music About The Confidence To Try New Things…
Oh, it definitely feels like just in the beginning. I mean, I feel like ever since the whole pandemic started, we’ve all had to figure out different ways to get our music out there, and connect with fans. And I just feel like people are so much more receptive to try different things. And I definitely feel the music business, especially Nashville shifting in a different way. But I definitely feel like I have a lot more confidence than when I first moved here to just make music that I love, and not really think about how other people are going to perceive it.
Well, I mean, so all of the people on the EP that I’m releasing are like some of my favourite people ever, and a lot of us, we haven’t had number ones yet; we’re just making music that we love and it’s so… Yeah, hopefully. And like we’re just making music that we love and it is fun to experiment with things because when I release stuff that’s different. I feel like it’s, it’s scary to kind of think about how people are going to perceive it, but the fans love it and they dig into it, and that just fires me up even more to try different stuff.
Tiera Tells Apple Music About About Her Music Moving Forward…
Well, the goal ever since I first started releasing music with the first song “Found It In You,” it’s just been to keep as much music and content out there as I can, you know? So after the EP, we’re just planning to keep more music out there, and doing more collaborations, yeah, really just keep it going. I’m having so much fun and it’s awesome to see the fans’ response from the music too. So, I mean, the plan is to just keep rolling.
Tierra Tells Apple Music About Dream Collaborators…
Oh man. I mean, there’s so many, obviously Dolly is at the top of the list, but also I feel like Shania Twain would be super fun. I did a show with her and she was just so great to work with. So that’d be awesome too.
