Sykamore Tells Apple Music About Growing Up On A Cattle Ranch…
Best thing was just the experience of it. We played outside a ton. I have two older siblings and we’re all fairly close in age. We weren’t those kids that beat each other up all the time and didn’t like our siblings. The three of us were best friends. We did everything together and we got to play down by the creek and climb trees, and ride horses. It was a very rural fun, almost storybook-like upbringing. That was the best part. The worst part was, and I think my siblings would agree is, it was always hard to get friends to come over because they needed a ride out or we needed a ride into town to go see them. We felt a little bit remote sometimes. There’s so much land in Canada it’s usually a two-hour drive to go anywh
Sykamore Tells Apple Music About Meeting Gwen Stefani…
Well, when I met Gwen Stefani. I don’t know if it was quite common knowledge that she was going out with Blake. I think it was still a little bit hush-hush. My publisher and a really good friend, Rhett Akins, Thomas Rhett’s dad, took me to a Blake show at Bridgestone Arena. We got to go backstage because he has a few cuts with Blake Shelton and so they know each other. We went backstage and we were hanging out with everyone backstage. Gwen was there and she was just walking around and just seeing her, you get starstruck, seeing someone like that. Such an icon. That was enough for me, I didn’t think I’d get to talk to her…. Somehow, everyone drifted away and I had like a few minutes just talking to Gwen by myself. I remember being like, “Just be cool. Be cool.” She was asking me, she said something like, “So, you’re a country artist from Canada?” I was like, “Yeah.” She was like, “How does that work?” I think she probably had no idea there was country music coming out of Canada, which is fair. We were talking and I remember coming away from the conversation thinking like, “I think I did pretty good. I think I kept my cool, and I kept composure.” I was wearing this low v-neck T-shirt. I came away from that conversation and I went to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and I was completely covered in hives. My whole chest had broken out of hives. Just from talking to Gwen I have stress hives.
