Jade Eagleson joins Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen for a look at his sophomore album, ‘Honkytonk Revival.’ True to its name, the album draws heavily on the clucking guitars, fiddle and steel. Jade describes the importance of getting those core elements right as he dives deeper into the fun, rowdy side of Country. Tune in and listen to the episode in-full tomorrow at 11am PT / 1pm CT / 2pm ET or anytime on-demand at apple.co/_TodaysCountry.
Jade Eagleson on His Sound
We’re really trying to bring that 1990s country music back, but at this same time, we’re trying to twist it in a way that still makes it relevant. And it’s been really fun to attack that sound and figure what that sound is exactly. I know Alan Jackson in his time did it, George Strait in his time did it, Shania did it. So we’re just trying to figure out what our version of that is.
Jade Eagleson on the Rowdy Sound of ‘Honkytonk Revival’
We were definitely trying to go for that where it’s like, we want songs to make you feel like you’re at the bar and hanging with your friends, like in a honky-tonk or that kind of feeling. I was picturing a pool table in this record, guys at the bar smoking cigarettes. That’s what we envisioned, and we just needed the music to match that. And we had a perfect collection of that sent to us, and then some of the stuff I was really happy to write on as well. And it just turned into this fun project. We had a lot of fun recording it too.
Jade Eagleson on “She Don’t Know”
So I was really blessed to have had it sent to me by actually, two of my really good friends, James Barker of the James Barker Band and Travis Wood. And they had sent the song to me and I listened to it and it just had this vibe to it. It felt very… It almost reminded me of like, you know Randy Travis’ Three Wooden Crosses, how it has that walk down. And it just really allows you to kind of dig in there with your vocals and stuff. And so I was like, “You know what? I could use another love song.” Who can’t use another love song, right? So we got it and it’s a really beautiful thing.
Jade Eagleson on Moving to Nashville from Canada
I want to chase this dream on the highest level. And to do that, you have to be in Nashville. And I want to break out in the US as well. And I don’t want to be 60 some day saying like, “Oh shoot, I could have done it, but I never tried.”
