Danielle Bradbery on ‘In Between: The Collection’
When we first discovered that this was going to be happening, ‘[In Between: The Collection]’ and it’s like an album. And I sat there and I had to think about it for a second because I’ve never really done something like this before. It’s taking all of the songs that I kind of just threw out there over the years, past two years almost, that are just kind of floating around and maybe a group of my fans or a group of new people haven’t even heard them before. So we’re basically taking all of that, putting them in a group as an album, and then adding just the few new ones that I have, and then we’re calling it the ‘In Between: The Collection.’
Danielle Bradbery on Singing About a Taboo Subject in “Look At This Mess I’m In”
The biggest part that stood out to me [about the song] was, the woman made a mistake and that doesn’t happen really anymore. You don’t hear that anymore. It’s always the guy, it’s always the man that is making the mistake, cheating, breaking the promises, everything. And so it took me back to that nineties era or that old time era of country music, where they sing about everything. The woman was singing about cheating and the woman was singing about being an alcoholic or something pretty intense. And so I’m like… It’s so different and you don’t hear that anymore. And I feel like confessing your moments is powerful.
Danielle Bradbery on “Break My Heart Again”
When I first heard it, the melody is what reached out to me first. I was like, “God, this takes you everywhere. And I love it.” And then the story I’m like, no matter what the relationship looks like or who broke up with who, no matter what extent it is, you’re going to want… There’s always this little toxic trait about every single relationship and I don’t care how it goes, there’s always that little back and forth after. And there’s always that, “I love this person so much that…” Because you keep going back and then you texting or you keep calling and then you kind of want to go and run into them at this place. And you want to go and look what they’re doing on Instagram. And there’s moments about everybody that keep it going along. And that’s basically what the song is talking about.
Danielle Bradbery on Where the Sound of Her Music Is Heading
I feel like with these new songs, “Break My Heart Again” and “Look At The Mess I’m In,” is kind of the start of what I think my feeling of just everything is going towards. Like it has a little bit of an element of everything. Like country music’s always going to be my core, that storytelling. If you think of country music, that’s always going to be there for me. But I grew up not your average country singer. And I don’t know how to put that, because I grew up around so many different types of music. Like my mom, she loves dancing and we always listen to hip hop, R&B and Latina music. And that’s just what I grew up around. And then my dad is the one that liked all the country music and going two stepping and all that stuff.
Danielle Bradbery on Defining Her Own Style and Genre of Music
I feel like a lot of the question is, what is your genre? Because a lot of people don’t really have a lane anymore. And I’ve always thought, well I’m just always going to put out music that I love passionately and whatever my fans or the people gravitate to, I’m going to just leave it up to them, honestly. Because I’m just going to keep making this music that means so much to me and that I want to sing at the top of my lungs at concerts and everything. And then leave it up to what everyone else likes about it. And I hate putting a label on it.
