Brendan Hunt Talks About Showing Heart vs. Being Funny
Kelleigh Bannen: The intersection of funny and heart is a pretty magic place because I think… And I don’t want to speak to you or your story, but I think a lot of my favorite funny people learned to be funny as a defense mechanism. When that comes into a healthy place and it’s married with heart, I think it is a pretty magical spot. I just wonder if that… Does that ring true for you and for the people that are involved in this show?
Brendan Hunt: Yeah, I think so. There’s a kind of comedy that is just wackadoodle make-believe, which I certainly have often enjoyed and probably purveyed, but there’s also kind that is finding the humor in the pain of things. Like people talk about the show, I mean, all these positive vibes and everything and creating this warm feelings and everything, but we’re not Teletubbies. Like people go through s*** on this show. It’s about where they are at the end of it and their ability to keep their head on their shoulders despite what they’ve been through.
Brendan Hunt Gives Season 2 Tease of “Ted Lasso”
Kelleigh Bannen: What can you share about season two?
Brendan Hunt: I can tell you that the characters are, what they go through this season will be more focused on what’s happening inside them than what’s happening outside them. This will be less of a season about events and more of a season about how people have gotten to where they are. Doesn’t that sound hilarious?
Kelleigh Bannen: Is Coach Beard going to get over any of his intimacy issues and maybe are we going to see more Jane?
Brendan Hunt: We are going to see more Jane and we will get a big closer look to the rollercoaster that they ride.
Kelleigh Bannen: Oh, okay. I like it. That was a tease. That was a great tease.
Brendan Hunt Discusses Soccer as a Hobby vs. It Being Part of His Work Life
Kelleigh Bannen: Is it now like this thing that you really enjoyed soccer is now a thing that you have to talk about in your work life? Is that like less fun for your hobby?
Brendan Hunt: No. It validates my hobby. It makes my Fubo subscription tax deductible. And I think my LAFC tickets too, come to think of it… No, especially looking back like, I became a soccer fan relatively late in life and spent a lot of weekends when I was living in Amsterdam. I could have been at a museum or whatever, but I went to the pub and I had a pint and I watched… I’d watch Newcastle versus Southampton. And a lot of people that time may have reflected on that and described it as wasted time. But now I know it was research. So I saw that wasted time get its revenge. I’m delighted. I’m chuffed as our friends over there would say.
Kelleigh Bannen: That is a perfect description.
