Apple Music’s countdown to the holidays continues on ‘From Apple Music With Love,’ with an exclusive show over the weekend with Becky G. Becky G joins Apple Music for an interview and plays her favorite Christmas music, including songs by Jay Wheeler, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and more. Plus her friend Chiquis Rivera checks in.
On her favourite Christmas food…
I want to share one of my favourite foods actually of Christmas time since we’re talking about traditions, and mine is pozole. Pozole is one of my favourite holiday foods. I don’t just have it around the holiday times, I’m not going to lie, sometimes I convince my mum to make it in the middle of summer because pozole is the bomb, but something about red pozole with a little bit of spice when it’s cold and chilly outside, oh, it’s just so good.
On her Christmas traditions…
Since I was a young girl, since I could remember, every Christmas we would sit together in one big circle and we would each share something that we were grateful for that year. And so many of us would gather around and all because even some family members that were maybe a little bit more timid, a little bit more shy, a little bit more reserved, would share some adversities that they overcame, some accomplishments that they finally, finally were able to accomplish. And that feeling of being connected to what you’re most grateful for is something that we should be practising more often.
On what she’s grateful for this year…
And for me, I’d like to share what I’m most grateful for, which is the power of connection. I reflected so much throughout this year with us living through this pandemic together, realising that there’s so many things that are outside of our control. The power of connection is really what fuels me as an artist, as a daughter, as a sister, as a partner, as a granddaughter. It’s checking in with the people that I love. It’s asking them questions and being inspired by that. So I’m very grateful for the power of connection. I’m connecting with you guys right now in this very moment and that I find so beautiful. So thank you guys so much for tuning in, and make sure that you start your circle of gratitude. You be the one to start that new tradition.
On her goals for 2022…
One of the things that I really want to work on is my mental health. I’m very, very, very passionate about mental health. I think for a very long time, it was something that we didn’t talk about. It was very taboo. And focusing a little bit more energy, trying to create a little bit more balance when it comes to mental health, my heart, my mind, my soul, it’s just done so much for me and I feel like, I don’t know, 2022 is going to have some very simple, but good goals, maybe some meditation. Maybe some more cooking, less ordering food in, practise my cooking skills.
On developing her beauty brand…
My third goal is to continue to develop my make-up brand. My make-up company is something I’m really passionate about, it’s called Tresluce Beauty. It’s literally a love letter to my Latinx culture. I always say it’s not about me, it’s about we. I think the art form of make-up is something that’s always fascinated me. And so I guess exercising my businesswoman skills to create more opportunity for our Latinx youth and artists through Tresluce is a goal of mine as well. I’m going to throw that one in there because ooh, I think 2022 is going to be a good one for our community, for sure.
