Holloway Road, the country-pop duo from Essex, England, have just released two new singles, ‘In the Dark‘ and ‘No Place.’
‘In the Dark‘ reminds any of their fans and audience of the magnetic excitement that they have attracted in the UK country scene, well and truly ‘diamonds in the rough.’ It is easy to imagine the single on tour, to the acclaim of their loyal fans.
‘No Place‘ makes you sit and up in mild bewilderment, and is possibly the more exciting direction-wise of the two released tracks – not necessarily expecting such a sweet melody from the Essex boys, known more for bringing energy to the crowd, giving everything they’ve got to their perfomances than softer lyricism. With a vibe that is reminiscent of a kind of country Fall Out Boy, mixed with the roots of Ed Sheeran, the song exudes an understated, cool energy, with lyrics that literally appear to trip off the boys’ tongues. The song starts with a tinge of sadness and melancholy, detailing a life on the road, ‘making friends I’ll never know’ ‘this life on the road, it ain’t going home, the one I’ve always known’ ‘got to find a road to call home,’ but ultimately a tone of optimism prevails of the fact that there’s ‘no place’ the duo would rather be. It is easy to tell that the pair have been writing together now for some reason, with a musical and lyrical chemistry that leaps off the track.
It is little wonder that their performances at C2C have been met with wide acclaim. There is ‘No Place‘ the pair should be rather than on the stage or in the studio writing magic.
The duo have been leading the genre on the UK live circuit for some years now; having enjoyed extensive radio support and national press coverage, more streams than any other independent UK country duo, and opening for likes of The Shires, Lindsay Ell and more as well as numerous major festival appearances including Country to Country and the first Country Music Week in London. Coverage to date has included Vice, Country Music Magazine and The Daily Mail (“an impressive set for a huge mob of fans…”), and with growing support from fans worldwide, success in a growing international country scene is increasingly becoming part of the Holloway Road story. The band recently completed their first UK headline tour, documented in the video for recent single ‘Under Cover’, and they are due to return to Nashville in April 2018.
A regular fixture at Country to Country, we caught up with the duo ahead of the release of their newly released singles, ‘Under Cover,’ and ‘No Place,’ at C2C 2018 for Episode 11 of Off the Record. Listen here for free, either on Soundcloud or subscribe on iTunes.
