Just when fans were anticipating an announcement of her rerecord of Reputation – Taylor Swift announced TS11 – her brand new album – The Tortured Poets Department – out on April 19.
On the 2024 GRAMMY Awards, Taylor Swift continued her domination of the music industry – picking up the best vocal album for Midnights (beating out Kelly Clarkson’s Chemistry, Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation, Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts and Ed Sheeran’s Subtract) and a record-breaking fourth win for Album of the Year. Following her win for best pop vocal album – her 13th GRAMMY – she announced a brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department, set for release on April 19th, shocking her fans who had been expecting an announcement of her next re-recorded album.
“I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans,” Swift said. “So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19.”
She added, “It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you. I love you. Thank you.”
The announcement went live on the singers Instagram immediately, revealing the album’s artwork. She also posted a photo of a handwritten note that reads, “And so I enter into evidence / My tarnished coat of arms / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and charms / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My veins of pitch black ink / All’s fair in love and poetry…” She signed off the poem (or lyrics) with, “Sincerely, The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department.”
