Daisy Edgar Jones has been confirmed for the project, starring as lead character Kya. Taylor John Smith and Harris Dickinson will join Edgar Jones – Smith will play Tate Walker, the young fisherman who falls in love with Kya and eventually teaches her to read and write before heading off to college and Dickinson will play Chase Andrews, the star quarterback whose murder sparks Kya’s trial. Jojo Regina will play the role of “Little Kya” and Deadline have also announced Ahna O’Reilly, Garret Dillahunt, Sterling Macer Jr., and Michael Hyatt will join the cast. Eric Ladin will play Eric Chastain, the North Carolina state prosecutor who seeks to convict Kya of Chase’s murder.
