One of the best selling books of 2020 – The Vanishing Half – is set to become a TV show, having been bought at auction for a reported seven figure sum, with 17 bidders competing for the rights, according to Deadline. The book that tells the story of two identical sisters, Desiree and Stella Vignes who separate at 16 – one passing for white – and the different lives that they lead as a result of this decision. One of the sisters is living a life of secrecy – her husband and daughter know nothing of her past – while Desiree has returned to their hometown. Their daughters are consumed by the weight of the secrets both sisters have lived under for most of their adult lives.
Brit Bennett will reportedly serve as executive producer for the limited series alongside Issa Rae and her Hoorae production company, while Aziza Barnes and Jeremy O. Harris will write and executive produce the HBO adaptation. No casting has yet been announced, and neither has an official release date.
