Sister duo Tigirlily have released their debut self-titled EP, available everywhere today as a bold and thoughtful introduction to the duo, who have experienced phenomenal success over the past year, thanks, in part, to their success on TikTok. They are clearly an act that have spent years honing their artistry and deciding who they are and the sound they want to create. On the project, Tigirlily demonstrate in five songs what most artists require an entire album to create. On the project, the sisters give a glimpse both into their tightly polished harmonies and sound, but also their roots of who they are as artists in their thoughtful songwriting – it is little wonder that country powerhouse and iconic songwriter Shane McAnally is already in their corner, with the project co-produced by McAnally, alongside Louise Newman.
The Dakota natives open the project with the sassy track, co-written with Walker Hayes, ‘My Thang.’ It’s a boot-stomping track, with whimsically charming traditional country production tracks that still feel very current, as the duo sing about staying true to themselves – a track that seems to set their thesis for the entire EP. ‘Somebody Does’ bring the sister’s harmonies to the fore, in a track that strikes a chord. The track was a co-written with the sisters and Zarni deVette and reveals the sisters’ hearts – a big sister advice letter. ‘I don’t know who needs to hear this / But you should know you’re somebody’s reason / For gettin’ out of bed in the mornin’ / You’re just what somebody’s needin’ It’s a hearty, empowering track that everyone should hear.
‘Dig Yourself’ isn’t a traditional break-up ballad, instead it’s a feisty and bold track, calling out an ex on their wrongdoings, with an almost ‘Goodbye Earl’ spice. ‘I know you really dig yourself / Think the world would end without you / Baby, don’t you kid yourself / Not everything is always about you.’ There’s a fire to the track that reveals yet another side of the duo’s music.
‘Everybody’s On Something’ – another co-write with Walker Hayes – reveals an even more vulnerable heart to the duo and the track feels incredibly raw and authentic, setting an idea for the direction in which the duo’s music may move in the future and is a definite highlight. The project rounds out with ‘Known You Forever’ – a phenomenal final note to the EP – with a meaty and strong production, that shows the vocal gymnastic feats the duo can complete. The project as a whole is a tight and beautifully packaged creation that position the duo as fresh voices to watch in the Nashville scene.
