We review the new EP by Spencer Crandall – Lost In The Wild – ahead of its release this Friday, including the fan-favourite hit ‘My Person.’
Up-and-coming singer/songwriter Spencer Crandall has today release his new EP ‘Lost In The Wild’ that explores a broad and vivid sonic landscape, revealing more sides to Crandall’s artistry and sonic capabilities, offering new interpretations of some of his material. The project opens with the wedding version of ‘My Person.’ Of the version Crandall has shared, ‘I’m so excited to finally release ‘My Person’ – Wedding Version… I’ve had so many DMs, texts and emails asking for this version because this song has become the soundtrack for so many couples’ relationships. There have been thousands of videos to the original song with couples showing how much they love their person. I can’t wait to see all the videos of couples that will use this version at their wedding. It feels good to finally get this out to fans and I couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out.’ The song is powerful in its emotional scope and intensely romantic as he sings of how sure he is of his love. This before Crandall dives into a more pop-country sounding ‘Things I Can’t Say’ – a duet with Julia Cole. It’s a catchy, dripping and swaggering song sonically as the duo sing back and forth, flirting with the idea of sharing the true nature of their emotions – an immensely charming track that is backed up by next track ‘Apartments in LA.’ On both of these tracks, Crandall offers a more stripped back version on this EP that allows the listener to explore the intricacies of the lyrics – a shrewd touch.
The two final tracks on the EP bring the project together – ‘Nothing To Do With You’ that is a yearning melody allowing Crandall’s vocal to soar and final track ‘Delete All’ that brings in a surprising, unexpected and fresh EDM-tinged remix. It’s a risk but the risk pays off and instead posits Crandall as an artist with vision, with a sonic scope that has barely been revealed yet – he is an artist to keep an eye of in the coming years.
