Drake Milligan continues to deliver with his brand new EP – out tomorrow – Jukebox Songs.
There’s something addictively charming about Drake Milligan. His songs capture the energy of a honkytonk, the nostalgia of 90s country and wrap them out in a honeyed, immensely likeable baritone vocal, delivering timeless country music. After a chart-topping breakout year, Milligan now returns with his brand new EP – Jukebox Songs – out tomorrow. The chapter marks a bold new chapter, digging his heels into his high-energy twang that made him such a fan favourite at C2C last year.
The project was produced by fellow Texan, Trent Willmon, who has brought the songs to life. From the driving and delightful love songs – ‘What I Couldn’t Forget’ and ‘I Got a Problem,’ Milligan sets the tone with his tripping, charming lyrics.’You’re a wild card, I’m a gambler… I’ve got a problem, but what a damn good problem to have.’ The project proves his depth, with the emotional heartbreak song – ‘Don’t Leave Me Loving You’ – where Milligan sings to an ex-lover who is leaving town, begging for one final moment together to stop him loving her. ‘Come leave me hurt, Come leave me mad …. Just don’t leave me loving you.’ It’s a stunning, simple song that puts Milligan’s vocal and emotion front and centre, before rounding out the project with a honky tonk, boot stomping track ‘Jukebox Songs and Barstool Beers.’ It’s immense fun. ‘Got that Friday night feeling / Yeah I’m bouncing off the ceiling / Yeah the reason we’re all here / Jukebox Songs and Barstool Beers.’
This EP proves in the span of just four songs, why Milligan has been tipped as a UK fan favourite and just why he has already earned a legion of fans to his name.
