Chris Lane marks a new era with EP – From Where I’m Sippin,’ out everywhere now.
Chris Lane has established his own groove in country music since the release of his breakout hit ‘Fix,’ with a hip-hop infused pop-country sound, becoming known more recently for his thoughtfully sentimental odes to his wife Lauren. Now he returns with a new era of songs as part of the EP – From Where I’m Sippin’ – including the new single ‘Find Another Bar’ that is steadily climbing the charts.
The project kicks off with the romantic ‘Mistake,’ a loving ode to a girl – the mistake being to let her get away. It’s a tripping and charming track (‘She a little miss take my breath / Little miss so good it hurts / She a little miss take a sip of my beer, wake up in my shirt‘) that feels like a part 2 of ‘Big Big Plans.’
Next up is the only external cut from the record ‘Way to Go Girl’ about trying to get rid of the memory of a girl. It’s polished and an easy though more forgettable addition to the project as he sings, ‘Still tryna shake your memory / And not tap the brakes on tenth street / ‘Cause I wish you were home / Yeah I’m movin’ it on / But I still got a long way to go girl.’
An easy standout from the project is the swaggering ‘Betcha,’ daring a girl to come and talk to him in a bar. It’s catchy and swooning. (‘Betcha gonna love where the night goes / Betcha gonna two-step slide close / Singin’ into a beer bottle microphone / Come on, ya’ got me fallin’ in fast forward‘) Current single ‘Find Another Bar’ follows hot on its heels – a big anthemic heartbreak track that infuses his hip-hop infused pop-country with a rock edge, as he bemoans why an ex lover ends up in the same bar as him. (‘Find another bar, place to raise ‘em up / It can’t be that hard, I know you saw my truck / Why can’t you find another floor, different neon lights / Til you walked through the door / Yeah, this one here was mine).
Finally, the project rounds out with the easy grooving ‘From Where I’m Sippin” about enjoying life where he’s at. The whole project offers the easy charm of Chris Lane’s signature sound infused with a more mature and rockier edge than we’re used to. It won’t set the world on fire, but it will delight his fans.
