Rising RCA Nashville artist, Andrew Jannakos has today released his new EP Gone Too Soon, a project that shows the true range of Jannakos’ artistry. Jannakos first found fame on season 16 of NBC’s The Voice, but found viral fame when a clip of his single ‘Gone Too Soon’ went viral on TikTok. Once posted, the video racked up 250K likes by the next morning, earning him over 740K followers on the platform to date. When Jannakos finally released “Gone Too Soon” (which he co-wrote with Jason Afable and Josh Bricker)in September, the song garnered over 15 million streams in just over a month.
This EP positions Jannakos as one of the best up and coming indie country artists of the moment, showing the depths of his country music influences through his singing and songwriting, as well as his family’s roots in the genre. The project shows the breadth of his influences from Brooks & Dunn to Shania Twain and NSYNC. On the one hand Jannakos positions himself as a commercially fresh artist – such as on ‘When The Whiskey Runs Out’ as he sings ‘Why do you always come around when the last call’s calling / Tell me why’s your memory got to knock me down and leave me falling,‘ the swaggering and grooving ‘Somebody Loves You’ where Jannakos offers a hopeful note for lonely souls and on his breakout track ‘Gone Too Soon,’ is a sultry give and take track, teetering on that line before falling in love. ‘You come around unannounced and you leave with the sunlight / Just when it’s getting good you hit me with a goodbye.’ On the other hand, he shows his tender artistic roots inspired by the legacy of country music songwriting on sweetly tender and wistful tracks like ‘Like Yesterday’ and ‘We’ve Always Loved’ where Jannakos honeyed vocal shines, before the traditional hued final track ‘Wine Country’ where Jannakos stakes his sound back in his roots, resplendent with an RnB-esque groove.
This project positions Andrew Jannakos as an artist at the forefront of the new bulwark of country artists, breaking ground and carving a new path in the genre with a new and fresh country sound that is rooted in the past but infusing modern elements that keep it fresh and commercial.
